Introduction
Perpetually on the move, I'm a widely-published travel writer with experience in some 60 countries and a portfolio of 40 guide books for Lonely Planet and Dorling Kindersley; scores of travel features for magazines such as National Geographic Traveler, Lifestyle+Travel Get Lost, and Paperplane, and newspapers from The Independent to USA Today; along with contributions to travel reference and coffee table books, digital content, walking tours, podcasts, hotel reviews for booking sites, destination videos, and travel blogs. Based in Dubai, I've written on destinations all over the globe. In the last 3 years I have travelled to over 30 countries for assignments with my co-writer/husband and photographer Terry Carter. Now in our 33rd month on the move, we recently finished books on Dubai, Cyprus, Crete, and Italy.
Experience & Expertise
I write with husband Terry Carter, a professional photographer. We've been based in the UAE since 1998, although our work has kept us on the road continuously for almost 3 years (we call into Dubai every few months to check our mail, catch up on the latest hotel and restaurant openings, and write another book!) We have been travelling together for around 18 years and during that have traversed the length and breadth of the Middle East, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, living in Buenos Aires, Amsterdam and Brussels while researching books. We've experienced around 60 countries including Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA and Uruguay.
