Introduction
I am an Edmonton-based freelance writer and photographer and a former Tokyo-based writer, photographer, editor and translator. I recently completed a stint as principal reporter and photographer with the Waterton Boundary, a summer newspaper serving Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, in which capacity I built up extensive contacts within Parks Canada, the Waterton Chamber of Commerce and numerous tourist outfits and conservationist groups in southern Alberta and southeastern British Columbia. In Japan, I was a regular contributor to a number of English language publications and also produced Japan-related material for a number of Asia-Pacific inflight magazines. National parks and wilderness areas have also featured prominently in my writings on Japan, which have included articles on the Izu and Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands, Hakone, Chichibu-Tama National Park, Aizu Wakamatsu/Mt. Bandai and Sado Island.
